Established in 2000 by Greek artist and curator Dimitrios Antonitsis, the Hydra School Projects is a nonprofit platform that organizes exhibitions and supports publications that showcase the tendencies in contemporary art and culture. The venture is conceived as a means of introducing young and upcoming artists as well as more established ones to both a Greek and an international audience.
The exhibitions are held at the historic Sachtoureion, the Mansion of Admiral Sachtouris, which was ultimately donated to the Municipality of Hydra to become its first High School. For every exhibition a catalog is being published in the form of a traditional Greek composition book.
Prominent artists who have exhibited at the HSP, often for the first time in Greece, include Brice Marden, Robert Wilson, Allan McCollum, Michael Craig-Martin, Francesco Vezzoli, Cosima von Bonin, Nate Lowman, Hanna Liden, Kim Sooja, Candida Hoefer, Tony Oursler, Thomas Schuette, Martin Kippenberger and Gabriel Orozco.
