Sophie Tottie är konstnär och professor på Kungl. Konsthögskolan sedan 2012. Högre studier vid Konsthögskolan i Stockholm och på Institut des hautes études en arts plastiques i Paris 1986–1991.
Totties arbeten har visats i flera översiktsutställningar som On Line: Drawing Through the Twentieth Century, en utställning av Connie Butler och Catherine de Zeeger på MoMA, New York City (2010); Mirror’s Edge, en vandringsutställning av Okwui Enwezor (2001); Visions du Nord / Nuit Blånche, en utställning av Hans Ulrich Obrist och Laurence Bossé på Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris (1998); och Deposition, en utställning av Bo Nilsson på 47:e Venedigbiennalen (1997).
Med material som måleri, teckning, objekt och video undersöker Tottie ämnen med situationsspecifika, existentiella, politiska och historiska referenspunkter i skärningspunkten mellan individen och större strukturella system. Parallellt med konstnärligt arbete och vistelser utomlands 1994–2014 och residens på Berliner künstlerprogramm des DAAD och International Studio Program i New York City har Sophie Tottie föreläst och undervisat sedan slutet av 1990-talet. Mellan 2001–2009 som professor på Malmö konsthögskola, 2009–2010 vid Harvard/VES och från 2012–2022 löper den tidsbegränsade professuren på Kungl. Konsthögskolan i Stockholm.
